Eye Health Education for Chinese Americans is geared towards San Francisco’s large aging Chinese American population, their families and their caregivers. Twenty percent (20%) of San Francisco’s 750,000+ residents are of Chinese decent. Developed for a lay audience, this event will provide education and vision screenings, as well as knowledge about additional services and organizational resources that are available to help avert vision impairment and potentially blinding eye problems. PBNC will also administer a survey as part of the event to allow measurement of the Chinese community’s beliefs and history on preventive eye care.
PBNC’s 36 Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
May 28, 2008
St. Francis Yacht Club
On the Marina, San Francisco
This lunch honors our more than 550 volunteer screeners. Presentation on Adult Vision Screening Procedures, and Macular Degeneration, by Jacqueline Koo, MD. Also featuring Service Awards, and a Raffle.
Prevent Blindness’ vision screeners look for a difference in the visual acuity between the two eyes of a preschooler as a tip-off to possible amblyopic. Our screeners refer a child with unequal vision or other suspected problem, advising the parents to take the child to an eye doctor immediately. They also provide follow-up, to assure that the referred child receives the necessary vision care from a physician.
We are so grateful for the many quality years of screening given by our volunteers!
