The Burlingame Lions. Great Screening – Great Follow-up!

The Burlingame Lions Preschool Vision Screening Team proves that strength does not always lie in numbers. This team has just 5 members, yet last year they screened 600 children. The team did a great job last year; 13 children were already in glasses. But the team still ended up referring 19 children this year. Of those, 6 were diagnosed with amblyopia, and 15 needed treatment. There was only one child for which they were not able to obtain follow-up. Their summary report was full of thank you notes from appreciative parents of the children who were detected through the Burlingame Lion’s screening efforts.

Featured Redding Volunteer

A heartfelt thank you to a very special volunteer who continues to help children and adults in our community. Marian George’s enthusiasm and commitment to our agency over the last four years has been invaluable. Marian explains, “I really enjoy working with the children in the schools. Because I am a retired ophthalmology nurse, I am especially interested in preventing blindness.”
